Designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the SS Great Britain was built in 1843 at the Great Western Dockyard in Bristol

Conçu par Isambard Kingdom Brunel, le SS Great Britain fut construit au
Grand Bassin Occidental du Port de Bristol où il est ancré actuellement.
Lors de sa mise à l'eau, il était de loin le plus grand bateau au monde et
c'était le premier bateau de haute mer à propulsion à hélice avec une coque
en acier. Conçu initialement comme transatlantique de grand luxe, il fut transformé à mainte reprises au cours de sa carrière maritime. |
